Argentina, who will bid for the first time, want the event on home soil in 11 years' time.

Macri and Pichot, the World Rugby vice-chairman, met on Monday in Buenos Aires.

"The decision is in line with the objective of promoting major sporting events," Macri said.

"That allows us to position the country to attract tourism and investment and stimulate the development of infrastructure projects that benefit the community."

Argentina finished fourth at last year's World Cup, and were third at the 2007 edition.
