David Duncan, the manager of Asante Kotoko, has revealed that he is ‘elated’ to have defeated league leaders and fierce rivals Asante Gold in the Ghanaian top flight.
Kotoko came into the game on the back of two successive defeats- Berekum Chelsea at home and WAFA away- but a 24th minute-strike from midfielder Frank Sarfo Gyamfi stole the bragging rights.
"It didn't come easy and I'm elated," Duncan told reporters after the game.
"Though we've won, we threw away several chances just like we did in our game against WAFA last weekend at Sogakope."
The gaffer hailed defender Abeiku Ainoosen's comeback from injury layoff, revealing the importance of having the stopper back in action.
"You'll always relish a situation where every player is fit to play. Abieku had a solid partnership with Adams. We played [Kwesi] Achempong in his absence and certain things didn't work for him but I don't blame [him]," he said.
Duncan insisted that he is calm ahead of the weekend's big game with his former club Hearts of Oak who are in the midst of a relegation battle.
The Phobians suffered a 2-1 defeat in the hands of New Edubiase on Saturday but Duncan seems unfazed.
"I'm a former coach there, but I'm not playing any different game,” he began.
“I've played with my former clubs with different teams so it's a normal game on Sunday."
Kotoko currently lie 11th on the log with 32 points, three above Hearts who sit 14th in the table.
