Murray focuses on Davis Cup doubles after Bemelmans win
Andy Murray was pleased to wrap up his opening match of the Davis Cup final in straight sets, and immediately turned his attention to Saturday's doubles.
The world number two eased past Ruben Bemelmans in Ghent on Friday to level the final at 1-1, David Goffin having earlier come from two sets down to beat Great Britain's Kyle Edmund to give Belgium the lead.
Murray produced some big serves at important moments in the match, while also looking comfortable with his groundstrokes on the clay surface.
After two hours and 24 minutes on court he wrapped up a 6-3 6-2 7-5 win as Bemelmans fired a return long, giving Murray the chance to recover in time for partnering his brother Jamie in the doubles.
"It is nice to get off in three sets," he said after completing his victory. "The third set was tricky, I had a few chances at the beginning and didn't get it.
"He started going for his shots a bit more, but I fought hard to the end.
"It is a big match tomorrow [in the doubles], we don't know who they'll play, but we have good tactics for all of them, we have seen all of them play quite a bit of doubles.
"Me and Jamie have played some good doubles this year, hopefully we can do the same tomorrow."
