John Millman continues good form in Memphis

Millman arrived in the United States having reached the quarter-finals of the Montpellier International last week, his first appearance in the last eight on the ATP Tour, just weeks after making the Australian Open third round.

And the high-flying 26-year-old continued where he left off with a 6-3 6-7 (3-7) 7-5 win over American Austin Krajicek.

Millman had 11 aces and converted four break-point opportunities, which proved telling in their contest of two hours, 42 minutes.

He will face Benjamin Becker in the next round after the German defeated Tommy Paul 6-4 3-6 6-3.

The 34-year-old hit six aces and saved five break points against his American opponent and will now face Millman, who won the one and only meeting between the two at last year's Stockholm Open.

Bosnian eighth seed Damir Dzumhur also won through to the second round via a three-set win against Tim Smyczek.

Dzumhur overcame Smyczek 6-3 4-6 6-3.

Awaiting Dzumhur is Lithuania's Ricardas Berankis, who ousted Dudi Sela 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 7-5 at the ATP 250 event.

Malek Jaziri was defeated by Marcel Granollers 6-1 6-3, and Matt Ebden retired when trailing Henri Laaksonen 6-1 3-0.

An all-American affair saw teenager Taylor Fritz account for Michael Mmoh 6-3 6-4.
