World number three Simona Halep has postponed the nose surgery which was originally meant to keep her out of Romania's Fed Cup tie against defending champions Czech Republic this Saturday.

The Romanian had previously ruled herself out of the tie as she looked to address a number of health issues that have affected her performances on the court.

Halep was one of many shock early exits in the Australian Open women's singles draw.

She exited in Melbourne after losing 6-4 6-3 to the unseeded Zhang Shuai in the first round.

The news was the cause of great excitement for Romania captain Alina Tecsor, but she said it would still prove a tough tie for the home team.

"It's a great advantage to have Simona Halep in our team," she said.

"But let's not forget that the Czech Republic has a strong team, with players in the top 10, so chances are somehow equal."

While Halep's return is a massive boost, the home side will still have to cope without Alexandra Dulgheru who has pulled out with an injury.
