As the Mohammad Amir saga continues, the Pakistan Cricket Board has rejected Azhar Ali's resignation as one-day captain.

Azhar Ali will remain as Pakistan one-day captain after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) rejected his resignation over the return of Mohammad Amir.

Amir was included in Pakistan's 26-man training squad ahead of their tour of New Zealand and the ICC World Twenty20 after five years in exile following his involvement in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal.

His performances in the Bangladesh Premier League with the Chittagong Vikings brought him back into contention for the national team, Amir taking 14 wickets at an average of 12.64.

Amir's return prompted Azhar and Mohammed Hafeez to initially stay away from the camp, but they were both talked round and subsequently returned to the fold.

However, it appears Azhar's feelings were so strong in relation to the 23-year-old he tendered his resignation, a move blocked by the PCB.

"Azhar Ali met the chairman PCB [Shaharyar Khan]. He tendered his resignation," a widely-circulated PCB statement read.

"The chairman didn't accept his resignation, Azhar Ali agreed and he will continue as captain."
