Trevor Bayliss believes England still have room for improvement despite sealing an impressive series win in South Africa on Saturday.

England ripped through the Proteas' batting line-up in Johannesburg as the hosts were bowled out for 83 in their second innings, Stuart Broad leading the assault with 6-17 at the Wanderers.

After finishing the first innings with a 10-run lead, the tourists only needed 74 to win the match – and the series – a feat they achieved with the loss of three wickets, Joe Root hitting the winning run.

England's performance was hailed by players from both sides after the match, and while Bayliss was impressed with the display, he expects his side to improve further in the coming months.

"I had a look at the players that were here, there was a lot of potential but potential never won anything, there's a lot of hard work to be done yet," the England coach told the ECB website.

"There has been a lot of good work done in the past, not just by the players but the coaching staff.

"I still think they're a few years away from their best yet."

Former captain Ian Botham echoed the thoughts of Bayliss and believes England are now beginning to show what they are capable of.

"This side is starting to fulfil their potential and I think they are a young side who can go all the way to world number one as quickly as possible and be there for a while," he told Sky Sports.

"They are a good unit - they work well, have good management and are encouraged to express themselves and this springboard is just what they wanted to believe they can win away."
