All-rounder Mitchell Santner said he was surprised by the fear during the Black Caps' meeting with Zimbabwe A in Harare.

New Zealand are in control of the tour match at 154-4 in their second innings and leading by 385 runs.

"A swarm of bees floated across in front of the sight screen there," Santner told the Black Caps website.

"I saw Boulty [Trent Boult] hit the deck pretty early and from there everyone else seemed to hit the deck, but I was the only one standing I think you'll find.

"They were quite far away so I don't know why everyone was on the ground, it was a bit weird.

"We had to stop play for a bit but I think they moved on and we carried on."
