Braves fire Fredi Gonzalez in midst of miserable start

The Atlanta Braves have fired manager Fredi Gonzlaez following a miserable start to the 2016 MLB season.

Gonzales was relieved of his duties on Tuesday with Braves an MLB-worst 9-28 for the year. Bench coach Carlos Tosca also was dismissed.

Brian Snitker, manager of the Braves' Triple-A farm team in Gwinnett, will take over as interim manager.

Terry Pendleton will move from first base coach to bench coach, Eddie Perez switches from bullpen coach to first base coach, and Triple-A pitching coach Marty Reed has been promoted to serve as bullpen coach.

The Braves not expected to be successful in 2016 after the roster was stripped down over the past two years with the team in full rebuilding mode. However, on the heels of a 95-loss campaign in 2015, management decided to make a change.

Gonzalez was 434-413 in five-plus seasons in Atlanta, reaching the playoffs twice and never finishing below second place in the National League East until last year.

The 52-year-old previously spent three-and-a-half seasons as manager of the Florida Marlins and has a 710-692 overall record in the dugout.
