Braves post rare win, Blue Jays on song

The Atlanta Braves enjoyed a rare win as Freddie Freeman found form with the bat, scoring a pair of two-run homers to help his side to a 7-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Matt Wisler was in good form for his six-plus innings at the mound, as he allowed just the one run to improve his personal record to 2-3.

The Toronto Blue Jays made it two straight against the Minnesota Twins in their 9-3 win as Jose Bautista scored his seventh homer of the season after some tremendous stuff from Josh Donaldson, whose third-inning double got the Blue Jays up and running.

The Arizona Diamondbacks survived a late St. Louis Cardinals fightback to claim an 11-7 win, while the Texas Rangers won their local affair against the Houston Astros 2-1.

The Kansas City Royals picked up a 4-1 win over the Chicago White Sox courtesy of Lorenzo Cain's go-ahead RBI double in a three-run sixth inning, the Washington Nationals were 4-1 winners in Miami against the Marlins, and the Tampa Bay Rays extended their winning streak to four with a 7-5 win over the Detroit Tigers.

The Seattle Mariners ran out 8-3 winners over the Cincinnati Reds, the New York Mets won 3-2 against the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Cleveland Indians knocked off the Boston Red Sox 4-2.

Elsewhere, the Pittsburgh Pirates won 2-1 against the Colorado Rockies despite Gerrit Cole playing his first start without a strikeout, the Baltimore Orioles managed a 9-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels, the Chicago Cubs ended the San Francisco Giants' winning streak at eight with an 8-1 win, and the San Diego Padres edged the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-6.

ARRIETA AT IT AGAIN

Chicago ace Jake Arrieta continued his hot streak on Friday night, leaving the Cubs' game against the Giants with a 1.29 ERA — the lowest in the league. Arrieta pitched seven innings and struck out eight while allowing just four hits and one run.

DONALDSON MAKES IT RAIN

The self-proclaimed "bringer of rain" Josh Donaldson lived up to the billing in Minnesota as his second-inning homer got the ball rolling for the Blue Jays, making it two straight against the Twins.
