Brisbane Broncos beat Wigan Warriors in World Club Series

Corey Oates and Kodi Nikorima each scored a brace of tries as Brisbane Broncos battered Wigan Warriors with a dazzling attacking display to win Saturday's World Club Series encounter 42-12 at the DW Stadium.

The Warriors were beaten 14-12 on golden point by the Broncos 12 months ago, but Shaun Wane's men were second best in all departments on this occasion against the NRL Grand Final runners-up.

Oates and Nikorima went over in both halves, while Matt Gillett, Jarrod Wallace and debutant Greg Eden all got in on the act and Anthony Milford also impressed for Wayne Bennett's men.

Dan Sarginson and George Williams responded for Wigan, but the manner of victory is sure to again raise questions over Super League's quality after NRL's whitewash in last year's Club Series, with Sydney Roosters having defeated St Helens 38-12 in Friday's opener of the 2016 instalment.

All eyes will now fall on Headingley as the two respective champions, Leeds Rhinos and North Queensland Cowboys, prepare to face each other on Sunday.

Broncos defended well against early Wigan pressure and struck first when Milford picked out Oates on the left flank, the try given despite his boot perhaps being of out play.

Wigan then lost Michael McIlorum to a suspected broken ankle following a tackle involving Milford and team-mate Ben Flower, before Nikorima - whose brother Jayden starred on debut in the Roosters' win over Saints - gobbled up a lucky bounce off the post from Milford's grubber kick.

The hosts hit back when Sarginson burst over from Liam Farrell's flat pass, but the Broncos struck twice shortly before the break.

First, Nikorima's exquisite offload sent Gillett over on the right, before the excellent Milford played in Wallace, who waltzed through a gaping hole in the defence.

Warriors were punished for two costly drops on the left flank after the restart, the second of which led to Eden sprinting free and, although he was tackled, Broncos recycled left for Oates to grab his second.

Nikorima again got on the end of a Milford grubber to stretch the scoreline and Eden sprinted from his own half to score his first Broncos try.

Oates thought he had a hat-trick in the closing stages, but was judged to be in touch, and Wigan had a late consolation when Williams charged over from close range.
