Brock Lesnar will make a shock return to the MMA world after being confirmed to fight at UFC 200.

The WWE superstar and former UFC heavyweight champion will make his return in the co-main event of UFC 200 on July 9.

Lesnar's opponent is yet to be announced.

"Brock Lesnar remains under contract to WWE, however, he has been granted a one-off opportunity to compete at UFC 200," a WWE statement read.

"Following this milestone event on, Brock will return to WWE for SummerSlam on Sunday, August 21."

The last time Lesnar, 38, fought in an MMA match was in December 2011, when he lost to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141.

He had a 5-3 record as an MMA fighter before leaving UFC due to diverticulitis, returning to WWE in 2012 after an eight-year break.

Headlining UFC 200 will be Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones, who will battle for the light heavyweight championship.

Meanwhile, Miesha Tate and Amanda Nunez will fight for the women's bantamweight title.
