Medeama fail to reach semi-finals

M.O Bejaia enjoyed plenty of the possession in the first half and put Medeama under intense pressure, but the Ghanaian giants were resolute in defence to coil all the threats from the hosts until the referee blew his whistle to bring the first 45 minutes in a close.

Back from recess M.O Bejaia continued to knock on the doors of Medeama until they unlocked their defensive line to get the opener in the 52nd minute. Morgan Betrayal's picked a pass from outside the 18-yard box and blasted it beyond the reach of Daniel Adjei in the post in a sublime manner to fetch his side the goal that sent them into the semi-finals of the competition.

M.O Bejaia almost doubled the scoreline in the 78th minute, only for Daniel Adjei to come to their rescue by parrying away a powerful header from a well-rehearsed freekick.

Akwesi Donsu responded to the Bejaia threat and in an attempt to restore parity for Medeema when he blasted a powerful ball that called the Algerian goalkeeper to duty: He dived to save the ball and fell to the ground, afterwards to be attended to by the medical team.

Toauti, the substitute caught Medeama off guard through a solo effort when he passed his marker Victor Ayireh, but he missed the goal post, just some  inches, before the Senegalese referee blew his whistle to bring the game into an end.

The victory enabled M.O Bejaia to finish on 8 points with Medeama, but the Algerian outfit have advanced to the semi-finals via the application of the head to head rule. Medeama drew goalless in Ghana against M.O Bejaia. They have joined T.P Mazembe, who topped the group with 13 points.
