Ghanaian luxury watchmaker Caveman has launched a new timepiece that draws heavily on the country’s cultural heritage.
The unisex model, called the Retro Loom, combines contemporary watch design with visual references to traditional Kente and Adinkra motifs.
The watch features a textured dial inspired by the geometric patterns of Kente cloth, with subtle metallic accents and minimalist hour markers intended to keep the focus on the patterned surface.
Its metal-link strap is designed with a woven-style texture that echoes Ghanaian fabric techniques. Adinkra-inspired details are incorporated across the strap to give what the brand describes as an “artisanal yet modern” look. Caveman says the construction is built for durability, with contoured edges to improve comfort in daily wear.
The 40mm case is made from polished stainless steel and has a slim profile aimed at appealing to both men and women. The colour palette on the dial blends muted earthy tones with metallic highlights in a bid to balance traditional references with a modern aesthetic.
The Retro Loom is powered by a quartz movement and includes a long-life battery and optional date display. The watch is water-resistant to 50 metres and has a scratch-resistant finish, according to the company.
Each piece is supplied in a presentation box that incorporates Kente and Adinkra design elements, and includes an authenticity certificate and care guide.
Caveman’s founder and creative director, Anthony Dzamefe, said the Retro Loom was intended to act as “a bridge between Ghanaian history and modern fashion”, adding that the brand’s vision of luxury focused on “meaning, precision and cultural significance” rather than decoration alone.
The watch is available via Caveman’s online platform and at its retail outlets. Early feedback from customers and reviewers has highlighted its emphasis on local cultural references and craftsmanship.
Caveman, founded in Ghana, positions itself as a luxury lifestyle and fashion brand that blends African heritage with contemporary design, with an emphasis on craftsmanship and sustainability.
