Chicago Blackhawks extend Joel Quenneville contract

The Chicago Blackhawks have tied coach Joel Quenneville down to a three-year contract extension which will seem him through the 2019-20 season.

Quenneville, who is in his eighth season with the Blackhawks, holds a record of 343-168-69 in 580 games at the helm and has led the team to three Stanley Cup titles, most recently in 2015.

The franchise confirmed the extension to the Canadian's deal in a statement on their official website.

Quenneville is in his 19th season as an NHL coach, previously working at the St Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche before transitioning to Chicago.

The 57-year-old needs just one win to join former New York Islanders coach Al Arbour on 782 career victories - the second highest total in NHL history.

In addition to helping Quenneville reach the milestone, the Blackhawks will look to extend their winning streak to eight games when the host the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.
