Chicago Cubs, White Sox claim dramatic wins in MLB

Jason Heyward hit a single to left center in the 13th inning to see the Cubs claim a 3-2 walk-off win against the San Francisco Giants.

The White Sox needed 12 innings before a two-run double from Tim Anderson saw them past the Minnesota Twins 13-11.

The battle for the second American League (AL) wildcard remains tight.

The Detroit Tigers edged the Kansas City Royals 6-5 to move into a tie with the Baltimore Orioles, who were downed by the New York Yankees 5-2.

There were shut-out wins for the Milwaukee Brewers (10-0 over the Pittsburgh Pirates), the Atlanta Braves (2-0 over the Philadelphia Phillies) and Oakland Athletics (1-0 over the Boston Red Sox).

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 7-4, the Cleveland Indians edged the Miami Marlins 6-5, the Los Angeles Angels got the better of the Seattle Mariners 4-2 and the Arizona Diamondbacks claimed an 8-5 win over the Colorado Rockies.

The Houston Astros overcame the Texas Rangers 7-6, the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3, the St Louis Cardinals homered again in a 5-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Mets were 5-1 victors against the Washington Nationals.

UPTON, MARTINEZ STEP UP FOR TIGERS

Tigers outfielders Justin Upton and J.D. Martinez helped Detroit eek out a victory against the Royals by hitting a home run apiece. Upton continued his resurgence by collecting two hits, a home run and three RBIs. Martinez had two hits and two runs scored.

SEVENTH HEAVEN FOR ABREU

Anderson delivered for the White Sox, but so did Jose Abreu – who hit two homers, went three-for-seven and had seven RBIs.

CARDINALS HOMER AGAIN

The Cardinals extended their franchise record by homering in their 23rd straight game. Only the Padres have a longer streak in 2016 (25 games). The Cardinals now have the fourth-longest all-time streak by a National League (NL) team.

JAYS IN NEW YORK

R.A. Dickey (9-13, 4.43 ERA) takes the mound for the Blue Jays to help keep them ahead in the competitive AL East. He will face off against Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka (11-4, 3.12 ERA).
