Super League: Hull KR sack Chris Chester

Chris Chester has been sacked by Super League side Hull KR after failing to win any of their opening three matches in 2016.

Hull KR have parted company with head coach Chris Chester only three rounds into the 2016 Super League campaign.

Winless Rovers have endured a tough start to the new season under Chester and Sunday's 14-12 defeat to Wakefield Wildcats sealed the 37-year-old's fate.

Details surrounding Chester's departure are unclear following a statement released on the club's website.

Chester's assistant Willie Poching will take control of the first team ahead their Super League match against St Helens on Friday.

"Hull Kingston Rovers can confirm that Chris Chester has been stood down as head coach with immediate effect," the statement read.

"Assistant coach Willie Poching will take charge of first team affairs on Friday evening when the club face St Helens at the KC Lightstream Stadium.

"The sole focus of everybody at the club at this time is on Friday's game and securing two much needed points, and any further comment on the situation, future plans and expectations will follow after the weekend."

Chester was promoted to head coach in 2014 and in his first full season in charge took the club to the 2015 Challenge Cup final – where Hull KR were soundly beaten 50-0 by treble winners Leeds Rhinos.
