Bayliss: Hashim Amla resignation no problem for South Africa

Trevor Bayliss does not expect a mid-series change of captain to have an adverse impact on South Africa as they attempt to come from behind and beat England.

Hashim Amla resigned as skipper after scoring a double century in the drawn second Test at Newlands on Wednesday, having come in for criticism following the first defeat at Kingsmead, which came after a 3-0 series defeat in India.

One-day international captain AB de Villiers has replaced Amla for the two remaining Tests and England head coach Bayliss is not envisaging a change of leadership making the Proteas a different proposition.

"I don't think it will make much of a difference to the South African team, they have an able replacement," Bayliss said.

"Obviously Amla will still be in the team and he is in form. He scored 200 runs and it might free his mind up even more.

"AB is a guy with a lot of experience and has done the job before. I can't see too much of a problem there."

Ben Stokes was man of the match in Cape Town after making a record-breaking 258 – the fastest score of 250 or more in Test cricket – in England's 629-6 declared.

The all-rounder said he "probably won't play like this ever again", but Bayliss sees no reason why not.

"I'm not sure it was a one-off. It's quite possible he could do it again, he's that type of player," the Australian said.

"He's in the prime of his career and we all look forward to watching more of that."
