Curry needs 'best game' to win NBA championship

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry knows that only his best will do ahead of an unexpected game seven of the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Hardly anyone expected the Cavs to take Curry and Co to a deciding showdown, particularly when the Warriors took a 3-1 lead in the series, but that is exactly where the reigning two-time NBA MVP finds himself ahead of Sunday's meeting.

And he knows exactly what he needs to do to keep the championship at Oracle Arena.

"I need to play my best game of the year, if not my career," said Curry. "Because of what the stakes are.

"That doesn't mean score 50 points, though. That means control the tempo of the game."

Curry has met with adversity since the end of game six. He was fined $25,000 for throwing his mouthpiece into the stands after he fouled out, resulting in his ejection.

The Warriors talisman knows that he will have to show more control in his play in the next meeting if he is going to serve his team well.

"When I need to be aggressive – well, I need to be aggressive, but when I do need to push the envelope, do it, but do it under control," he said.

"Do it within the schemes that we're used to as a team. Focus on the details on both ends of the floor. All those things go into having a great game, and I need to do that."
