Darius Fleming pulled woman from wrecked car, needed 22 stitches

New England Patriots linebacker Darius Fleming saved a woman from a wrecked vehicle just two days after the side's NFL play-offs win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

After seeing a three-car accident on Route 1 near the Gillette Stadium last Thursday, Fleming approached the scene and assisted the woman as she attempted to exit her wrecked vehicle.

As a result of his actions, Fleming suffered two cuts to his leg that required a total of 22 stitches.

"She was attempting to kick the window out, but she was a small lady," Fleming told the Boston Globe. "I didn’t panic, but I was just like, ‘I got to get her out.’

"I tried to break [the window] with my elbow, but that didn’t work, so I just started kicking the window.

"Eventually it broke, pulled her out, made sure she was OK, and I looked at my leg and I noticed it was bleeding pretty bad."

Fleming said he was no hero, and that anyone would have done the same if they came across the same situation.

"It was a little freaky, but anyone in that situation would’ve done the same thing," Fleming said.

"It’s just, I was there. I’m glad I could help her."

The Patriots meet the Denver Broncos on Sunday in the AFC Championship Final and a resulting spot in Superbowl 50.
