In a tweet, Mr. Benjamin expressed his appreciation to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for helping with the arrest of the drug lord.

David McDermott is reported to have been on the run for about three years from UK security authorities.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) in the UK indicated that McDermott is suspected member of a Liverpool-based organised crime group involved in a conspiracy to import and supply cocaine which was seized from a container of frozen Argentinian beef in May 2013 at Tilbury Docks.

He was arrested during a joint operation involving officers from the NCA and Ghana's BNI.
