Rio 2016: Ashton Eaton unlikely for Tokyo 2020

The American made it back-to-back decathlon wins with his victory at the Rio Olympics, the first man to achieve that feat since Daley Thompson in 1980-84.

Eaton, 28, appeared to cause confusion over his future via Twitter on Sunday, before following up by saying his career was not over just yet.

"To be an Olympian, to be an athlete, to be a Decathlete; it has been the pleasure of my life. Thanks for believing," he wrote.

"By the way, never said I was retiring, just unlikely I'll go to 2020."

Along with his two Olympic titles, Eaton is a two-time world champion and the world record holder.

Eaton's tally of 8893 points in Rio equalled the Olympic record set by Czech Roman Sebrle at Athens 2004.
