Four days on from Ronnie O'Sullivan saying the prize for a Welsh Open 147 was not enough, Ding Junhui secured £10,000 by making a maximum.

Ronnie O'Sullivan may have passed up the opportunity to make a 147 at the Welsh Open, but the feat was achieved on Friday courtesy of Ding Junhui.

O'Sullivan came in for criticism from certain quarters on Monday, when he declined to remain on course for a maximum break in his first-round win over Barry Pinches.

After potting 14 reds and 13 blacks, the five-time world champion opted to play for the pink - having been unimpressed when he discovered the prize for a 147, which rolls over at ranking events, was £10,000.

O'Sullivan went on to tell the BBC: "I could have done it, but I didn't think the prize was worthy of a 147.

"Once the prize goes up a bit, I'll go for the 147."

However, the reward for a maximum at March's World Grand Prix - snooker's next ranking event - is now set to drop to £5,000 after Ding made the perfect clearance in the sixth frame of his defeat to Neil Robertson.

Ding trailed 4-1 prior to his 147 - the sixth competitive maximum he has made - and went on to lose the next frame as Robertson booked his place in the last four.
