Dominika Cibulkova wins Katowice Open
It was a case of third time unlucky for Camila Giorgi on Sunday, as she lost the WTA Katowice Open final to Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets.
Italian Giorgi lost her third decider in successive years at the event, going down 6-4 6-0 to Cibulkova.
Giorgi, seeded fifth, had lost both of her previous two meetings with the Slovak and she made a bad start to the match at Katowice's distinctive 'Saucer' venue, giving up her serve twice in quick succession to fall 4-0 behind.
World number 48 Giorgi broke Cibulkova and held to get back to 4-5 but then failed to claim two break points as the eighth seed served out the first set in 48 minutes.
The second was a brutal affair for Giorgi, who lost all three of her service games to suffer a demoralising bagel in just 28 minutes.
Victory at the WTA International competition marked the fifth title of Cibulkova's career and her first since the Mexican Open in March 2014.
