Barcelona star
Argentina and Barcelona star Lionel Messi has finally met 6-year-old Afghan kid Murtaza Ahmad whose pictures flooded social media after being captured wearing a plastic bag shirt with the Barcelona star’s name and number scripted on it.
Earlier this year, pictures of little Ahmad flooded social media when he was captured on camera wearing an improvised Lionel Messi shirt made of plastic. He quickly became an internet sensation and was tracked by news agency AFP who quoted him as confessing at the time that he “loved Messi” and was looking forward to meeting him.
In a twist of fate, little Ahmad’s dream has been granted after he met his idol Messi in Qatar, where Barcelona are scheduled to face Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli later on Tuesday.
Ahmad and his family now live in Pakistan after fleeing their home in Afghanistan in a bid to escape the war, and he will have the privilege to walk the Barcelona team out of the pitch when they face Al Ahli at the Al Gharrafa stadium in Doha.
A statement released by the committee overseeing the organization of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar quoted Ahmad as saying: "I'm very happy to have met my hero. It is a dream for me."
