Be on the alert – GHS tells hospitals

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has asked all regional health directors in the country to be vigilant after an outbreak was reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said declared an outbreak in northeast DR Congo after the virus caused three deaths in the area since April 22.
The WHO said the outbreak affects an equatorial forest region in Bas-Uele province, bordering the Central African Republic.
The last Ebola outbreak in Congo in 2014 was quickly contained and killed 49 people according to official figures.
As a result, the GHS has issued the following measures to regional health directors across the country in preparation of a possible outbreak in the country.

They are:
• Strengthen surveillance for early detection and response
• Update preparedness and response plans in districts and regions
• Sensitise staff to adhere to infection prevention and control measures at the facilities
• Ensure availability of holding place at the regions and PPEs
• Conduct targeted public education and without causing fear and panic
