Abetifi by-election underway

Voting is currently underway in the Abetifi constituency where about 43,773 people are expected to exercise their franchise in electing a new Member of Parliament in a by-election.

The by-election has become necessary following the sudden death of the MP for the Eastern Region constituency, Peter Wiafe Peprah, on May 21, 2016.

Deputy Communications Officer for the Electoral Commission Yussif Alhassan Ayuba indicated on Accra based Class FM on Friday July 15 that all electoral materials had been sent to the constituency to ensure a smooth election.Four candidates, representing four parties are contesting for the seat. They include Bryan Acheampong of the New Patriotic Party (NPP); Edmund Nkansah, Progressive People's Party (PPP); Kenneth Nii Quaye, United Front Party (UFP), and Vida Konadu Enim of Independent People's Party (IPP).Voting began at 7am and will end at 5pm.
