Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kwaku Baako, has warned going into the 2016 election with a register that is “not reasonably accurate” could affect the integrity of the declaration of the result.

“If you go to an election with a register that is not reasonably accurate and credible as required by this ruling, you may be sowing seeds for certain litigation that could affect the integrity of the declaration,” he said.

The Supreme Court on May 5 ordered the EC to clean the voters’ register of minors, dead people and people who registered with National Health Insurance Scheme cards.

But the EC issued a statement saying it has no power under current laws to unilaterally delete the names of people from the register. A position one of the plaintiffs in the case, Abu Ramadan, deemed contemptuous of the court.

Baako believes the EC’s position is not in consonant with the judgement.

“The EC’s position position’s apparently to me is that the [NHIS] cards, no way. That is wrong. That is not in consonant with this judgement."

“So now we should be discussing process, is it effective remedy to identity those who used cards?” he asked.“My view is this, we should do we the right thing. We should find means.”

He conceded not having the professional competence on the specifics to clean the register but said the end result is to produce a reasonably accurate and credible register.
