This was contained in a statement signed by the flagbearers and National Chairpersons of both parties.

“The People's National Convention (PNC) and the Progressive People's Party (PPP) wish to announce to their members, supporters and the general public that we have reached agreement on a parliamentary coalition for the 7 December 2016 election.”

Meanwhile the PNC will campaign and vote for the PPP in six other constituencies. Most of these constituencies are located in the Northern part of the country.

Critics have asked if the parties considered the time left for the general elections before taking such a decision. Others have also asked what considerations they made before agreeing on a merger. Yet still some have asked if this decision will not decrease the winning chances of the presidential candidates of both parties.
