We must finish hard - Hanna Tetteh tells NDC
Hanna Tetteh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has said that she is optimistic that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will win this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections, but has appealed to party members to “finish hard.”
According to her, party members should ignore the “bizarre” analyses being made by some political pundits about her constituency.
“It is interesting to listen to the political pundits discussing my constituency. Some of the opinions are well-informed, some sound quite bizarre. My recommendation – just be patient and wait for the results from all 119 polling stations in Awutu Senya West to be declared then you'll know the outcome,” Ms Tetteh wrote on her Facebook page on Monday November 28.
Giving what she calls a few facts about her constituency, Ms Tetteh wrote: “We have two traditional areas, the Awutu and Senya traditional areas. For this election we have 73,141 registered voters. 26 out of the 119 polling stations are in the Senya traditional area with 16,977 voters, the other 93 polling stations and the rest of the registered voters are in the Awutu traditional area. For the previous six elections, with five of these in the previous larger Awutu Senya constituency, the NPP has won the seat once in 2004 and the NDC has won five times.”
“The NDC always performs miserably in the Senya traditional area and barely manages to get 20 per cent of the total votes cast within the registered voters of the Senya traditional area. The NDC wins elections in the constituency with the support of the majority of the registered voters in the Awutu traditional area. The elections are just next week, wait for all 119 polling stations to declare and then we'll see what happens,” she said.
She said she is, however, hopeful that constituents will not disappoint her at the polls.
“I know the people of Awutu Senya West appreciate the work the NDC government has done in the constituency and I appreciate the support and goodwill that has been extended to me during this campaign.
“I'm thankful to God for his many blessings and the opportunity to serve the people of my constituency. To my team, let's stay focused, we have just one more week of campaigning ahead. We are in the homestretch; let's finish hard,” she said.
