England's James Haskell has successful toe surgery

It was announced earlier this month that Haskell - a star performer in England's 3-0 whitewash of Australia in June - would be out for up to six months to undergo reconstructive surgery.

Haskell is certain to miss the start of the 2016-17 Premiership season and is unlikely to feature before the new year.

But there was at least a positive update on Tuesday, as Haskell posted on Instagram from his hospital bed.

"Everybody said the operation went well, so first day on the journey on to rehab," he said.

"I may have had some Special K, going against my number one rule about eating cereals but in hospital, you've just got to roll with it.

"Thanks for all the amazing messages and I'll keep you in touch with loads of videos about my rehab, what I'm doing, and everything else but for the moment, it's just resting and making sure I don't put any weight on my foot."
