The people of Iceland showed their appreciation to the players of their national team as they returned from the Euro 2016 with their heads held up high.

Iceland were the smallest nation to have ever appeared at an European Championship with a population of 332,529.

The small nation was drawn in Group F with Portugal, Hungary and Austria. Iceland placed second in the group, two points ahead of Portugal who were expected to top Group F with ease.

Iceland progressed to the round of 16 where they shocked England with a 2-1 win to qualify for the quarter final stage of the Euro 2016 tournament.
Iceland could however not make it past host nation France who won their quarter final game by five goals to two.

Iceland returned home to a hero’s welcome as the people of the small nation showed their appreciation to the players who made them proud at the European Championship.
