Darron Gibson pleads guilty to drink-driving crash charges

Everton star, Darron Gibson, 27, was behind the wheel of his black Nissan Skyline GT-R Nismo when he ploughed into a cycling group at the side of the road near his home in Cheshire.

The cyclist hit by the £50,000-a-week star escaped with cuts to his legs, elbow and hand but his £4,500 bike was written off.

The ex-Manchester United footballer was said to have driven off at speed before pulling into a petrol station where he collided with a pump.

A concerned petrol attendant called police after the injured player got out of his motor with no shoes on and filled his vehicle with fuel on August 16.

He has pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, driving without due care and attention and failing to stop after an accident had occured.

The Republic of Ireland international was pictured out drinking the night before his arrest.

Chair of the bench Susanne O'Connell told Gibson that the failure to stop offence was "serious enough" to merit a community penalty.

Gibson must perform 200 hours of unpaid work as part of his community sentence.

He was ordered to pay £4,500 in damages caused to one of the bikes, a carbon composite model which was destroyed in the crash.

He was told to pay £1,000 compensation to the cyclist who he directly hit and £100 each to the two other men in the cycling group.

Gibson was also told to pay £295 court costs.
