The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, kicked off on Saturday, June 6 in Canada and Germany was the highlight of the opening Group A and B matches.

The Germany women's team thrashed one of Africa's representatives Ivory Coast by 10 goals to nothing.

Forwards Celia Sasic and Anja Mittag both scored hat tricks while Simone Laudehr, Sara Daebritz, Melanie Behringer and Alexandra Popp also scored.

Ivory Coast have been subjected to the second heaviest defeat in the FIFA Women's World Cup history.

The heaviest defeat in Women's World Cup history came in 2007, when Germany beat Argentina 11-0.

Germany are now top of Group B, ahead of Norway, who beat Thailand 4-0.

In Group B,  host Canada kicked off their tournament in a winning way, beating China by a lone goal.

Netherlands also beat New Zealand by a lone goal.

The Super Falcons will face Sweden in their first match at the World Cup.
