It’s best to describe the Portuguese as a journeyman who rarely stays at one club. This is a coach who has won trophies in Portugal, England and Spain, yet he continues to strive for more.

But one of his memorable stints would be that which he had with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The 55-year-old endured a mixed spell in the Spanish capital, having divided opinion among fans and Board alike.

However, in the end, he still delivered. He managed to win the la liga over the best Barcelona side in history, led by Pep Guardiola.

He also won the Copa del Rey with Madrid before exiting on a rather chaotic manner after falling out with some stars in the dressing room.

But Mourinho’s success at Madrid was defined by the players he brought to the club. There are some players who would never have thought of playing for Los Blancos because they are not galacticos, yet they made it under Mourinho.

Below are five players signed by Mourinho, who were not galacticos:

1. Luka Modric

Mourinho brought Luka Modric to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2013 from Tottenham. The midfielder did not have the perfect start, but is currently a club legend after their recent successes.

2. Jose Callejon

Jose Callejon was very young when Mourinho signed him to Madrid. For a manager known not to often give young players a chance, this was different as the striker grew in confidence before being sold to Napoli.

3. Diego Lopez

Mourinho famously brought in Diego Lopez to usurp Iker Casillas as Real Madrid’s first team goalkeeper. Despite strong resistance from the Board, Lopez became the first keeper and proved everyone wrong.

4. Ricardo Calvaho

Veteran defender Ricardo Calvaho was one of the players Mourinho trusted most in his time at Madrid. The defender worked with Mourinho at Chelsea and the Portuguese brought his compatriot with him to Spain when he joined Los Blancos.

5. Emmanuel Adebayor

Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor was brought to the Bernabeu on loan during Mourinho’s time as manager. He ended up scoring some marvellous goals before returning to Tottenham.
