Formula E shifts from refugee venue

Formula E organisers have shifted the venue of the 2016 Berlin ePrix after last season's location was turned into a shelter for refugees.

The new layout, which is still subject to the approval of city authorities and FIA track homologation, will wind around Strausberger Platz towards Alexanderplatz in the east of Berlin, with the pit lane on Karl-Marx-Allee.

Last year's race was held at the old Tempelhof Airport in the south of the city, but that facility has since been transformed into a shelter for some of those who have fled from the Middle East and Africa.

"It is fantastic news that we have been able to find a new location to race in Berlin and I want to thank everybody who has been involved in making this happen for all their hard work in such a short space of time," said Formula E chief executive Alejandro Agag.

The ePrix is scheduled for May 21 and will be the eighth round of the 10-race season.
