Formula One: Kevin Magnussen on McLaren's Jenson Button

Kevin Magnussen claims he has no ill feelings towards Jenson Button despite the Englishman's decision to remain at McLaren for 2015 costing the younger man a place in the team.

The pair were team-mates in the 2014 season and the Danish rookie has revealed he received assurances he would remain in the seat, with Button originally set to retire at the end of that campaign.

However, the Englishman opted to stay on and Magnussen was replaced by Fernando Alonso for the following campaign.

The decision resulted in the 23-year-old's demotion to reserve driver.

"I was told that it was my seat [for 2015] - that I didn't need to worry. I can't remember exactly when it was, but it was at the end of the season," Magnussen told Ekstra Bladet

"Jenson had his two best races at the end. He did really well. But he had also hung photos of his entire career in his room. He had a helmet ready to go that said 'goodbye' on it.

"He was driving only to have fun and enjoy his last two races without stress or pressure, believing 100 per cent that he was done in Formula One."

However, Magnussen insisted he has nothing but admiration for Button, who has now also extended his stay at McLaren for the 2016 season.

"Jenson is one of the best and there's nothing [negative] between us. We are in the same sport and competing for the same seats," he added.

"There is full respect. I know why he got the seat and there's nothing between him and me at all."
