Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has already begun investing billions into football in the country in anticipation of hosting the World Cup.

The Middle-Eastern country has become an attractive destination for players, most of whom have moved there for staggering wages in recent months.

Cristiano Ronaldo joined Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr in January and has since been followed by current Ballon d'Or holder Karim Benzema to Al-Ittihad.

Also, N’Golo Kante has swapped Chelsea for Al-Ittihad, while Edouard Mendy also signed for Al-Ahli in the Saudi topflight.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson also joined Al-Ettifaq in the summer, reuniting with former Reds teammate Stephen Gerrard, who manages the club.

Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2034 World Cup reportedly has the backing of FIFA and has now been endorsed by some football federations, including Ghana and Indonesia.
