Before his promotion, he was the deputy Commissioner of police. A statement released by the Ghana Police Service on Monday announced the promotion which took effect on June 1, 2016.

President John Mahama has promoted the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Nathan Kofi Boakye to the rank of Commissioner of Police.

It also said that the Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor, has expressed his “heartiest congratulations” to the now COP Nathan Kofi Boakye.
COP Boakye has been praised for his toughness in stamping out crime and politically linked violence in the Ashanti Region.
