Henderson bounces back for PGA Championship

Canadian teenager Brooke Henderson showed nerves of steel to win her first LPGA major via a play-off victory at the Women's PGA Championship on Sunday.

The 18-year-old showed incredible tenacity to win the tournament having led at the end of rounds one and two before slipping on day three.

But she recovered brilliantly on Sunday, closing the two-stroke gap between herself and Lydia Ko to force a play-off, winning on the first hole of the showdown after birdieing the 18th hole.

Henderson posted her best score of the tournament when she carded a six-under-par 65, having recorded two 73s on Friday and Saturday.

Her round included four birdies and an eagle on a terrific day for the teen sensation as Ko gave little away.

The New Zealander was flawless herself, going bogey free with four birdies to finish four under for the day and six under overall, and while she made par on the play-off hole, it was not enough for the two-time major champion.

Ko's play-off loss was the first on the LPGA Tour having won her other three attempts.

Thai star Ariya Jutanugarn shot a final-round 66 to finish a stroke shy of Henderson and Ko, while she was followed by a trio of South Koreans with Park Hee-young (66), Ryu So-yeon (67) and Lee Mi-rim(69) all tied for fourth at two under.
