Dag Heward-Mills’ anti-gay sermon causes controversy in South Africa

Same sex marriage has been legal in South Africa since 2006 and one of the country's well known personalities, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, is a supporter of gay rights and one of his daughters is married to a woman.

According to Starrfmonline, the preacher who gave the sermon in a Soweto church, described homosexuality as unnatural and in contravention of biblical teaching.

The sermon had largely gone unchallenged until Somizi Mhlongo, a popular choreographer in South Africa, walked out of the service and took to Instagram to criticise the sermon.

In a video posted on Instagram, Somizi Mhlongo, said he was disappointed in the service and at all the gay people in the church who ‘sat down to

“This is who I am. I am a gay man… I am proud and I am gonna remain gay for the rest of my life. Let God kill me,” he said.
