A man in China has been arrested after a video of him brutally beating a child emerged.

According to BBC, security camera footage of a man repeatedly stamping on the 2-year-old on a pavement in Luochuan County sparked outrage in China.

The man then stamps on the child's head repeatedly, using a broom to beat him for at least 30 seconds.

A motorbike rider and a pedestrian passed by before a group of people rushed out of the restaurant to stop the attack.

The video which has been viewed more than 17 million times, sparked serious outrage in the country and became the most talked-about topic on social media, with many criticising people who passed by without helping.

Chinese news agency, Xinhua said the child suffered skull fractures but was not in a life-threatening condition.

The assaulter, 28-year-old man Wang, is believed to have mental health problems and was detained late on Thursday.
