Ghanaian soldiers on alert following attack on UN Compound

The UN Compound in Timbuktu, Mali where over 100 Ghanaian soldiers are stationed has been hit by intense rocket attacks.

Pictures of the attacks on social media show some UN medical staff treating some injured soldiers rumoured to be Ghanaians.

But the Director of Public Relations at the Ghana Armed Forces Colonel Aggrey Quarshie who confirmed the attack said no Ghanaian soldier was involved.

He was unable to confirm who are behind the attacks but described it as worrying.

Ghana has for some time now been a major contributor to the UN on peacekeeping operations across the African continent.
