The former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder was introduced in the game in the 67th minute as the replacement of Atep Ahmad Rizal.

The presence of Michael Essien contributed immensely in helping Persib Bandung secure all the three maximum points with Fulgensius Billy Kerf scoring an added time winner for the Indonesian giants.

Persib Bandung coach Djadjang Nurdjaman revealed that the 34-year-old Ghanaian midfielder was struggling to adapt to Indonesian weather and for that matter have been going through sleepless night. That might have influenced the coach's decision to start him from the bench on Wednesday.
