The Pelicans announced the news on Thursday, in another blow for the struggling team.

New Orleans shooting guard Eric Gordon underwent surgery on his ailing right ring finger in January.

The Pelicans also traded backup point guard Ish Smith to the Philadelphia 76ers on Christmas Eve, leaving the team with a shallow backcourt for the remainder of the season.

Evans, who was originally drafted fourth overall by the Sacramento Kings in 2009, finished the season averaging 15.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 25 games.

The Pelicans (20-32) may go into full rebuilding mode now that they are depleted and out of the play-off picture.
