Injuries to Ben Bishop and Tyler Johnson did not slow down the Tampa Bay Lightning as they stormed to a 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in game one of the NHL Eastern Conference finals on Friday.

Bishop and Johnson both exited the contest inside the first period, but the Lightning rallied in their absence to take the initiative in the Stanley Cup play-off series despite playing on the Penguins' ice.

Alex Killorn opened the scoring with just over one minute to spare in the first period, ensuring they took a 1-0 lead into second.

Ondrej Palat compounded the Penguins' misery when he scored his third goal of the play-offs just two minutes, 33 seconds into the second period.

Jonathan Drouin made it 3-0 late in the second with a goal that looked to seal the game but the Penguins took some hope into the final period after Patric Hornqvist reduced the deficit via a snap shot with less than a minute remaining before the last change.

The in-form Penguins knocked the President's Cup-winning Washington Capitals out of the play-offs in the second round but failed to find a way back into the contest and must now chase down the Lightning in this best-of-seven series.
