Asante Akyem North MP Kwame Ohene Frimpong detained in Amsterdam, Netherlands
Asante Akyem North MP Kwame Ohene Frimpong has reportedly been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.
Parliament says it is working with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague to gather details about the incident.
The reason for his detention has not yet been disclosed publicly.
Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has reportedly been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The development was confirmed in a brief statement signed by Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Clerk to Parliament, and shared on the official social media pages of the Parliament of Ghana on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
The statement, however, did not disclose the reasons behind the detention, stating only that the leadership of Parliament is in contact with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague to obtain detailed information on the matter.
The statement read:
It has come to the attention of Parliament that the Hon. Member for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.

Kwame Ohene Frimpong contested the Asante Akyem North parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the December 7, 2024 general elections.
He secured a decisive victory with 26,926 votes, defeating incumbent Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who polled 8,933 votes, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Kofi Asamoah, who obtained 2,469 votes.
