Ajinkya Rahane recorded his fifth Test century before Ravindra Jadeja ripped through South Africa to give India control of the fourth Test on day two.

India - who have already clinched the series with an unassailable 2-0 lead - had closed day one 231-7 in Delhi with Rahane on 89 and the right-hander and tailender Ravichandran Ashwin (56) promptly piled on the runs.

Rahane reached 127 before being dismissed by Imran Tahir (1-66) as India were bowled out for 334.

And South Africa's frustration quickly multiplied courtesy of another failure to bat effectively against spin, Jadeja taking figures of 5-30 in a complete collapse from the Proteas.

Jadeja's excellent performance with the ball helped India skittle South Africa for 121, the visitors still trailing by 213.

India elected not to enforce the follow-on and will look to heap more pressure on South Africa with the bat after umpires opted not to start the second innings on Friday due to bad light.

Rahane brought up the first hundred of a series dominated by the bowlers with a superb straight drive, and it was only after a fine eighth-wicket partnership with Ashwin had reached 98 that his innings came to an end.

AB de Villiers claimed an easy catch at cover to bring Rahane's stay at the crease to a close but Ashwin continued undeterred, hitting six fours and one maximum on his way to a sixth half-century.

Kyle Abbott (5-40) eventually did for Ashwin and then removed Ishant Sharma for a duck to end India's innings, yet the joy from the second five-for of his career was short-lived.

A marvellous collective bowling display from India, led by Jadeja, left South Africa's hopes of posting a competitive reply to India's total in tatters.

Dean Elgar (17) nicked Umesh Yadav (2-32) to Wriddhiman Saha and fellow opener Temba Bavuma (22) became the first to fall victim to the off-spin of Jadeja, who then quickly claimed the wickets of captain Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis.

Amla - whose high score in the series is a disappointing 43 - was dismissed for just three and Du Plessis went for a second-ball duck.

JP Duminy (1) did last much longer as Yadav shattered his stumps and, while De Villiers (42) was the only South Africa batsman to show any sign of looking comfortable at the crease, he found no support.

Indeed, South Africa's tail wilted in the face of more brilliance from Jadeja - who took the scalp of De Villiers thahks to a magnificent one-handed Ishant catch at the long-off boundary - and Ashwin (2-26), leaving the tourists with a mountain to climb to even salvage a draw at the end of a miserable series.
