The boot of Carlo Canna led Italy to their win as the fly-half contributed 14 points, while Ornel Gega crossed for two tries in San Jose, California.

The win marked Italy's first of 2016, having gone through the Six Nations with five losses before going down to Argentina earlier in June.

AJ MacGinty and Canna traded early penalties before a penalty try for USA in the 21st minute put the hosts 10-3 up.

Gega also crossed in the first half and Canna ensured they led going into the break thanks to a penalty.

When Gega went over again, Italy were in control and while Tony Lamborn gave USA hope, the visitors closed out their win.
