The newly elected Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Gifty Twum Apofo was on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 sworn in by the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho.

She was advised by the speaker of parliament to emulate the principles of the late J.B Danquah-Adu.
Ms Ampfo will be in parliament for the next six months before the country goes into elections this year.
Gifty Twum Ampofo polled 10,033 votes representing 89.60% of total votes cast to become the MP-elect, having beaten Isaac Kwartey of the United Front Party (UFP) who managed to garner 901 votes representing 8.05%.

The other contestant Samuel Frimpong who stood on the ticket of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) had 263 votes representing 2.35%.
The total valid votes cast were 11,197 with the rejected standing at 110.
